Synopsis

Spanish for Veterinarians, Second Edition, is designed to help you rapidly learn working Spanish for clinical conversations. Packed with the practical vocabulary information and conversational tools found in the first edition, the new edition now includes a new chapter on exotics and expanded information on the Spanish required for pre-consultation discussion. The pronunciation exercises, available online as audio files to help veterinary team members effectively and confidently use Spanish in their client communications, have also been revised and expanded. This new edition is a lively presentation of the Spanish that working vets increasingly need to know.

Doody Review Services

Reviewer: Geoffrey W. Smith, DVM, MS(University of Illinois)
Description: This is a brief yet concise introduction to the Spanish language. In particular the editors seek to familiarize English speaking veterinarians with the Spanish translation of words commonly used in practice.
Purpose: This book is designed to prepare veterinarians for clinical conversations with clients or employees. With the tremendous increase in the percentage of Spanish-speaking Americans, this book will meet the needs of veterinarians that must communicate with non-English-speaking clientele. After reviewing its pages, most veterinarians will have learned enough Spanish to discuss key issues about a case.
Audience: This book will be very useful for any veterinarian or livestock producer who has the occasion to interact with Spanish-speaking clientele or employees.
Features: The pronunciation of terms relating to anatomy and specific diseases of all major veterinary species is discussed. Numerous phrases are provided to help the veterinarian relay necessary client education. The editors also touch on some points of basic conversational Spanish. This book can be used by someone with no Spanish background and will help those with some Spanish ability learn specific veterinary terminology.
Assessment: As the only book in this field, this is a must have for any practitioner dealing with Spanish-speaking clients. It is very thorough, yet easy to use. I can highly recommend this book to anyone interested in improving their Spanish communication skills.
