School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2-A delightful combination of ``I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly'' and Shel Silverstein's ``Boa Constrictor.'' The spider, which has a definite personality, slowly makes its way up a woman's body and, upon reaching her nose, wears an expression of pure delight. Caught in the web that trails behind it is an array of comical characters-fly, cat, moose, dinosaur, etc. Kelley's sumptuous watercolors, held together with black-ink lines, seem to jump off the pages and give the characters wonderful facial expressions. This rhyme can spin off to writing activities-an infinite number of verses could be developed. The music and words are printed at the book's end. It is more an activity-producing title than a read-aloud.-Joyce Richards, Prairie Grove Elementary School, AR
