Editorials

From the Publisher

Provides a comprehensive glossary of virtually all spinal systems available today, summarized in 1,258 pages. The book represents the current encyclopedia of spinal instrumentation. A unique quality of this book is its combination of thoroughness and brevity, making it well suited for a rapid and to-the-point review of each topic, with illustrative images. ..The chapters are similarly organized in a well-flowing text that is divided into highlights, indications, descriptions of the system, operative techniques, as well as complications avoidance, followed by a brief discussion. The chapters include clear diagrammatic presentations of the system components and their step-by-step assembly. The images are large enough for easy viewing of the necessary details (often one-quarter page) and are accompanied by a brief but complete legend. [The book] is a great investment for $299 and a comprehensive text that updates any spine surgery library on contemporary techniques in spinal instrumentation.—Journal of NeurosurgeryThis reference for spinal surgeons, spinal diagnosticians, radiologists, and non-operative therapists presents a compendium of spinal implant instrumentation systems in order to allow the reader to compare the indications, benefits, and technical challenges for each system. —SciTech Book NewsThe book is notable because it is comprehensive and well done in all aspects. This book has been written and published using high standards. —Doody's Book Reviews

From The Critics

Reviewer: John Peter Lubicky, MD(Rush Medical College of Rush University)
Description: This is an excellent and essentially complete compendium of spinal instrumentation and techniques that surgeons can apply to virtually any patient situation that they may encounter. The information is detailed and technique/implant oriented rather than disease/condition oriented, making it universal.
Purpose: The purpose is to present in one book the currently available techniques and surgical implant systems that can be applied to a wide variety of spinal diagnoses. This is a worthy goal. The information is certainly needed by surgeons doing this kind of work and the authors have met their objective.
Audience: The authors and editors are well-known and respected members of the spine surgery community and many are prominent leaders, both clinically and from a research perspective. The book is really meant for and directed to those doing spinal surgery at all levels of training and experience because the information is so complete, comprehensive, and current.
Features: The book provides descriptions of instruments, implants, and techniques for virtually all currently available instrumentation systems. The text is supplemented by appropriate illustrations, tables, and photographs. The book is notable because it is comprehensive and well done in all aspects.
Assessment: This book has been written and published using high standards. There are similar books, with many of the same authors and editors, and to that extent this book is not alone in trying to provide much needed information about spinal surgery. It is certainly no worse than those published previously and may in many areas be better. It will surely serve as a ready reference for me for the foreseeable future.
