Born in 1941 in the North Yorkshire village of Melonsby, Robert Jackson was educated at Richmond School, Yorkshire, England. He was defense correspondent for a major newspaper group, and is today a full-time writer and lecturer, mainly on aerospace and defense issues. Jackson is the author of over a hundred books on aviation, naval, and military subjects, including operational histories of aircraft such as Hunter, Canberra, Mosquito, F-86 Sabre, and P-51 Mustang, in addition to in-depth historical studies, such as the Battle of the Baltic, Dunkirk and Arnhem the Battle Remembered. He was Squadron Leader in the RAF Volunteer Reserve.
