Miranda Stevens continues her adventures in this third book about a horse named Starlight. Miranda is a precocious eleven-year-old who wants more than anything to own Starlight. She believes that she can buy him from Mr. Taylor because Starlight was injured in an accident and she does not think he will ever race. However, Starlight has healed from his injuries and Mr. Taylor plans on racing him. If Starlight wins, Miranda knows she will never be able to own him. She has several adventures with her friends and Starlight as she secretly trains him. Starlight does go to the race, but the jockey starts whipping Starlight and he is bucked off. Miranda races out onto the track and is the only one who can calm him down. At first Mr. Taylor is very angry, but he comes to realize that Miranda has won the horse's trust. He agrees to allow Miranda to work with the new jockey and let her own Starlight one day. This is an ideal book for girls who love horses. Miranda is constantly experiencing new adventures and learning important lessons about life. She keeps the reader wondering what she will do next. 2003, Raven Publishing,
