Synopsis

Street Angel - the urban drama/teen comedy/tragedy/action-adventure/sci-fi/political satire/slice-of-life comic with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek - is bursting forth from its underground roots into the realm of "legitimate" comics as a full-sized, ongoing series.

Victoria Vogel - VOYA

This book is a superhero fantasy for all skater girls. Homeless, orphaned, rarely in school, and weighing no more than eighty-seven pounds, this small heroine fights crime with the skill and determination of a street ninja. She fights her enemies on the streets of Wilkesborough, the worst ghetto in Angel City. Her goals in survival are simple: Beat down the people who make you mad, avoid school, and try to bum a hot meal every now and then. This first series volume is enjoyable, to say the least. Each story contains a kitschy satire that older teens and adults will get and appreciate. For example, one enemy is an evil geologist who wants to take over the world by reuniting the earth's contents. If younger teens pick up this graphic novel, they will surely be fascinated by the idea of a twelve-year-old skater girl super ninja. It is better suited, however, to older teens. There is graphic violence and adult humor. The black-and-white artwork is quite impressive. The novel ends in a visual menagerie of short Street Angel features, followed by a selection of pinups done by a variety of artists.
