Clear, concise textbook for undergraduates. The third volume in the state centennial reprint series was published originally in 1942 (Dodd, Mead) and is presented here with a new introduction. Driven from their Colorado farm after a bitter struggle with the dust-bowl conditions of the late 1930's, Nelle Davis and her family migrated to northern Idaho to begin again as stump ranch farmers. Davis' narrative is different from the western women's letters, journals, and diaries that have been collected; her story was meant for public consumption and purposely conveys an image of the West that easterners were eager to hear.
