A collection of 12 essays which provide an overview of the role which computers now play in the field of seismology and discuss ways in which they can be improved for solving problems now facing scientists and engineers. This volume is a direct outgrowth of a workshop held in conjunction with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists meeting, November, 1986.
