Gen. Maxwell D. Taylor was one of the great military heroes of recent American history. During WW2, he fought in Sicily & Italy. After the war, Taylor served as Comdr. of the 8th Army in Korea, & Army Chief of Staff under Pres. Eisenhower. Pres. Kennedy named him Chmn. of the Joint Chiefs of Staff & sent him to Vietnam in 1960; he returned there as Ambassador in 1965, & served as a key advisor to Pres. Johnson until 1969.
