Library Journal

Popular Mechanics was one of the first magazines for do-it-yourselfers, and it has always provided numerous well-designed woodworking projects. This title provides a collection of 30 projects, originally published in the magazine, for woodworkers of every skill level. The projects represent a diverse group of styles (e.g., craftsman, Chippendale, Arts and Crafts, and contemporary) and offer notes about the required skill level and the amount of time needed for completion. Each entry includes a bill of materials, a color drawing, detailed instructions, and numerous photos. Although the date of original publication is not included, and several photos are black and white, this is not a severe limitation. Spaced throughout are numerous, helpful sidebars like "Safety Sense," "Tool Care," and "Tech Tips." Popular Mechanics has a high level of name recognition, so this excellent title is sure to be used.
