Tacky, that loveable yet wacky penguin is back in this delightful Christmas adventure. Excitement is in the air as Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Nearly and Perfect are busy making Christmas preparations. But where is Tacky? Well, since his belly shakes like a bowl full of jelly when he laughs, Tacky has been chosen to play Santa Claus. And he's been practicing. Oops, he's stuck in the chimney. With a great deal of effort the others pull him out and resume their Christmas preparations. First they wrap presents, then make ornaments, and finally decorate the tree. Unfortunately there is a shortage of trees in Nice Icy Land, in fact their aren't any, so the penguins decorate Tacky instead. He makes rather an odd looking tree, all dressed up in his Santa suit and bedecked in Christmas finery, but he is sort of tree shaped, so will have to do. Finally Christmas arrives and the penguins open their presents. Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Nearly and Perfect give practical gifts such as jars of belly-sliding slickum or bottles of Yellow Brand Beak and Foot Polish. And Tacky? Tacky gives everyone a can of shaving cream. That's right, in his typical wacky way, Tacky has found the most impractical gift imaginable. Except when the hunters show up to ruin the penguin Christmas, Tacky's impractical gift saves the day. With this story Lester and Munsinger have once again teamed up to provide a fun read starring a loveable character who doesn't quite fit in, but in the end, his quirkiness always seems to save the day. Fans of the other Tacky adventures as well as those who are meeting Tacky and his friends for the first time will be delighted. Included with the book is a CD of original Christmas carols, including among others, Deck the Iceberg, O Tackytree, and I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas. Reviewer: Pat Trattles
