Overview
McCracken (philosophy, Lake Forest College) asserts that every shopping decision over which we agonize embodies a moral choice and that our lack of awareness of this moral element is a matter of deep concern. The first part of the book presents an analysis to show that the philosophic relation between human nature and moral reasoning may be termed "domestic aesthetic skill". This concept is explored in further chapters as McCracken analyzes the work of Alasdair MacIntyre on the Enlightenment and Kennedy Fraser and his notion of "fashion tactics." These ideas are applied to modern life, and particularly to the home, shopping, and the news media.Annotation Β© Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
