Synopsis
Prepared by engineers, statisticians, and consultants, this report analyzes techniques which could be used to continuously monitor the structural performance of potable water distribution systems, especially water mains larger than 30 inches in diameter. Critical parameters are identified, potential technologies considered, and their suitability evaluated. Selection criteria and implementation are addressed, and a methodology for pipeline management is proposed. Specific chapters discuss pipeline requirements, monitoring and surveillance technology, continuous sensing, periodic monitoring, in- pipe monitoring, remote sensing, aircraft and satellite based imagery, and the integration of technologies and decision support methodologies.
