Overview
The 12th volume of the Pacific World series highlights two central topics concerning Pacific textiles: the linking of economies across the Pacific before the 19th century and the impact of industrialization on Pacific economies from the 19th century onward. The essays examine the silk trade during the 10th to 18th centuries; the exchange of textile technology across the Eurasian continent; the results of changing patterns of the global cotton and cloth trades; and the effect of the wool trade on Australia's long-term economy. Taken as a whole, the essays show the interplay between technology and institutions and demonstrate that globalization is not a recent phenomenon.
