Gr 7-10-These series entries cover two significant decades in our history that are often glossed over in textbooks. The 1900s begins with an overview of the period; the booming economy, the working and living conditions of the average citizen, and some political history. Chapter discussions offer more detailed information on the daily life, social problems and cures, business and labor, the beginning of the conservation movement under Teddy Roosevelt's leadership, the revolution in the transportation industry, and the country's increasing role in global affairs. Sidebars deal with topics such as the St. Louis Exposition, the rise of advertising, the early film industry, and Mother Jones. The 1910s uses the same format to highlight the Progressive movement, worker's rights, silent films, vaudeville and other social activities, the U.S. role in world affairs and later in World War I, and the postwar period. Sidebars feature famous individuals and important political and social events and phenomena. Both titles include clear, but often small, black-and-white photos and reproductions, political cartoons, and maps. These volumes are similar to those in the "World History" series (Lucent) and will provide enough information for most reports.-Debbie Feulner, Northwest Middle School, Greensboro, NC
