Synopsis

While seeking to provide advice about publishing, the authors also intend to generate discussion and debate and describe how the nature of research has changed from an activity justified within itself to one defined by outside measures of worth, productivity and value. Within that context they advocate taking a strategic approach to publication, writing and working with others, dealing appropriately with issues of malpractice and intellectual property, publishing through journals and editing books or through alternate media such as the popular press and the Internet, selecting a publisher and negotiating a book contract, self-publishing, proposing a new journal or book series, and editing a journal or newsletter. They also cover some elements most new authors do not consider, such as conferences, the production processes, and keeping contacts. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
