Library Journal

This source book was created to help children and relatives of the elderly ``negotiate the obstacle course of aging.'' It focuses on such concerns of elderly people as financial planning, housing arrangements, long term care, and community services and includes extended discussions of Medicare and supplementary health insurance plans. The material is well organized, with an excellent index and bibliography of books, articles, and pamphlets. It is, however, obviously directed toward the adult children and its paternalistic tone gives the impression that the elderly themselves are either unable or unwilling to use it. A better choice is Helene MacLean's Caring for Your Parents ( LJ 5/15/87). Karen McNally Bensing, Metro General Hospital Lib., Cleveland
