From Barnes & Noble

The Barnes & Noble Review
Since his debut in 1962, Spider-Man has become one of the world's most popular, beloved, and universally recognizable superheroes. With hundreds of Marvel comic book story lines, three multimillion-dollar motion pictures, a handful of television shows, a long-running syndicated comic strip, and numerous video games to cultivate and propagate the mythos surrounding Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter ego, it's no surprise that DK Publishing has reissued its already extensive ultimate guide to Spider-Man with new and updated material.

Featuring more than 700 full-color images from the original Marvel comic books, this ultimate guide not only covers Spidey's evolution throughout the decades but also provides in-depth information concerning hundreds of key characters, including every one of Spider-Man's numerous adversaries (the Hobgoblin, Juggernaut, Kingpin, the Green Goblin, Hammerhead, Doctor Octopus, and more).

Also included is an introspective foreword from Spider-Man creator Stan Lee (the creative genius behind dozens of iconic Marvel characters like the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, the X-Men, Daredevil, Iron Man, et al.) who speculates on Spider-Man's continued worldwide popularity: "He's possibly the most realistically human of all Super Heroes. He never has enough money, he's constantly beset by personal problems, and the world doesn't exactly applaud his deeds -- in fact, most people tend to suspect and distrust him. In short, he's a lot like you and me."

Fans of Spider-Man and the Marvel Universe in general will undoubtedly find their spider-senses tingling when they peruse this definitively "ultimate" guide to everything Spidey. Paul Goat Allen
