Synopsis

Examines the people and events involved in the significant war by which the thirteen original colonies broke away from England.

Children's Literature

The greediness of the mother country, England, led to what we know as the American Revolution. The almighty "dollar" led England to place a tax on everything to and from the Colonies. Then, the British tried to make an even bigger profit by limiting trade to just England. They passed laws against trade with other countries like France, England's enemy, and parts of the West Indies not owned by Britain. Still feeling the sting of being beaten during the French and Indian War, France joined forces with the Americans in their fight for Independence. From the initial social and political unrest until the signing of the peace treaty in Paris in 1783, this text gives very interesting accounts from both sides of the ocean. Any instructor can easily integrate this book into the curriculum at the intermediate level and above thus making history come to life for these students. It is part of the "The Drama of American History" series.
