Originally published in 1964, this work by Horowitz (sociology and political science, Rutgers U.) contains writings by classic anarchist writers and others meant to provide a sympathetic portrait of the ideology and movement. The 33 readings are organized into section on anarchism as a critique of society, anarchism as style of life, anarchism as system of philosophy, the historical dimension of anarchism, and the sociological dimension of anarchism and include such works as Pierre-Joseph Proudhon's Property and Revolution, Emma Goldman's Love Among the Free, Henry David Thoreau's Civil Disobedience, and Alexander Berkman's Kronstadt: The Final Act in Russian Anarchism.
