Overview
Jonathan Green was born into the Gullah community, on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. The vanishing African-American culture of the Gullah people is preserved in Green's work, which are full of vivid color and emotion. His work, in acrylic and oil, often recalls his childhood from special-occasion scenes (funerals and christenings) to day-to-day activity such as fixing a child's hair of hanging out the wash.Book Details
