Children's Literature - Children's Literature

....a fine resource text for schools and libraries, because it has some fascinating things to teach. Kids will be astonished to know that eagles continually add to their nests, until they weigh as much as two tons. They'll chuckle at the idea that scientists wear eagle-head hand puppets to feed eaglets in captivity, so the birds won't mistakenly imprint on humans. And they'll outright guffaw when they learn that Benjamin Franklin wanted our national bird to be the turkey, not the eagle. Additionally, the decline of the eagle is explained in terms of DDT and the food chain, which makes this a good choice for teachers doing units on environmental studies.

Childrens Bookwatch

The Bald Eagle: Endangered No More is in celebration of a species that has been saved from extinction and begins with Neil Armstrong's famous Moon Mission words "The Eagle has landed." The final page shows a healthy eagle family nesting at the Kennedy Space Center in the 1990s. Highly recommended for personal, school and community library wildlife collections, Mac Priebe's informative and inspiring text is perfectly showcased by the artistry of Jennifer Priebe, 39 full color photographs, 3 black and white photos, maps, charts, glossary, and a website list.

Kids Books

And then examines the process of removing species from the endangered list. Plus much interesting information about the Bald Eagle. This book will be valuable in teaching kids about environmental issues. And it will hold their interest because of the fascinating information about animals. With so much negative information about the environment constantly attracting our attention, what a breath of fresh air to find out that such positive steps have been taken to increase the number of these nearly extinct species, and that the results have been successful.
