Gr 4-7-- This timely series places these newly independent republics into perspective, discussing the cultural, ethnic, and economic developments and problems surrounding efforts to stabilize the countries. The attractive format of each volume contributes to its readability. Full-color maps and photos appear throughout, and each book concludes with a section that includes information on natural resources, religion, and population. These titles will be invaluable resources to the understanding of the historical events leading up to the separation of the former Soviet Union, as well as the problems that each republic is facing as it moves along into independence.
