This basic, easily understood text about how the human brain works is part of the series "Human Body" and will appeal to young children. The captions for each photo appropriately summarize each brief chapter, and the photos are rich in explanation. Brief and basic analogies are used throughout the text to reinforce points made about the importance of the brain's functions. This is a useful classroom textbook, both for reading skills and basic understanding of the brain. The activity at the end of the book encourages children to test one or two basic functions of the brain for a better understanding of the text.
