Overview
The first British nuclear weapon test took place in Australia in October 1952. British nuclear weapons have been a source of controversy ever since. In this book, scientists, doctors, researchers and others assess the military value, political impact, health effects and legality of the programme.
Synopsis
October 3, 2002, marked the 50th anniversary of the first British nuclear-weapon test, conducted on the Monte Bello Islands off Western Australia. In this text, 16 scientists, doctors, and peace researchers from the UK, Australia, and Malaysia assess various aspects of the past 50 years of the British program. They conclude that it has caused significant harm while achieving little or nothing, and argue in favor of a renewed campaign for the elimination of nuclear weapons. Distributed by ISBS.
