Gr 6-9-Competent introductions to two facets of the Holocaust. Each one has brief explanations of its topics and a black-and-white or full-color photo or reproduction on each page. Camp System describes the types and placement of camps, their organizational systems, and daily life. On a map at the end, there is a color-coding mistake in the identification of the German labor camps, but the listing of the camps on the following page is correct. Both well-known and lesser-known figures are highlighted, and even small acts of personal resistance within the camps are remembered. Resistance details both outright warfare and underground activities. Both titles are an excellent blend of overview and personal stories, and each one relates the events well. Similar to Deborah Bachrach's The Resistance and William W. Lace's The Death Camps (both Lucent, 1997), Shuter's books will reach a slightly younger audience as well.-Paula J.
