Gr 1-4-Sneve takes children through Cheyenne creation stories, westward migration, culture, history, and conditions for the tribe today. Her text distills the cultural relationships among the people into understandable descriptions of male/female/child roles within the family and in the broader social structure. The tragic heritage of Cheyenne-white violence takes up the bulk of the text. Himler's watercolors take the form of clear maps and marvelously rendered characters. Their faces have muted features; the figures have form, style, and detail. A worthy addition that brings to life these people and their culture.-Jacqueline Elsner, Athens Regional Library, GA
