Gr 7 Up-Beginning with cold treatments of yesteryear, including feeding the sick person's hair to dogs, Kittredge describes various viruses that cause cold symptoms, compares this common ailment to the flu, and details prevention and research. Appendixes listing cold versus flu symptoms and other types of viruses and their modes of transmission conclude the volume. Skin Disorders addresses common conditions, such as psoriasis and acne, as well as skin cancer and STDs. Information on healthy hair and nails, and how our skin, hair, and nails can provide physicians with information about our general health is also presented. Both books are well written and well organized, and include glossaries and lists of organizations dedicated to the treatment of these conditions. Average-quality, black-and-white photographs, diagrams, and reproductions illustrate the texts. Useful for assignments but also for readers looking for information on respiratory/immune or skin problems.-Christine A. Moesch, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, NY Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
