Gr 6-10-- Saxon-Ford follows the series' standard format. European history and conditions leading to emigrations are described; immigration patterns and experiences of Czechs in the U. S. are detailed, as are the contributions of the new arrivals in various fields. The writing is clear and the rather complex Central European religious and political history is treated in a simplified but not simplistic manner. The black-and-white and color photographs add interest, as do the brief, biographical sketches of Czech Americans, but for the most part, the book's appeal will be limited to research for class assignments. Libraries in areas with large Czech populations will want to purchase it. --Trish Ebbatson, Delaware County District Library, OHBook Details
