Overview

Enhance existing frames in fantastic ways with a wealth of wonderful materials. Whether you find your frames in stores or at flea markets and yard sales, you'll be able to make them as eye-catching as what they're displaying.

Evoke the exotic flavor of the Far East by spicing up a black frame using a bamboo stamp, a couple of large Chinese coins, and two tassels. While the finished piece looks quite sophisticated, the rubber stamping technique you'll use is easy -- if you make a mistake, just wipe it off with water, dry it, and start over!

Bring the beauty of the outdoors into your home by sponging paint onto a frame using young or miniature ferns as stencils. This treatment creates the illusion of flora as seen in a sunlight-dappled forest.

Take that boring frame on your bedside table and jazz it up with pieces of costume jewelry embellished with twirls and whirls of wire and beads. This fun and funky project is a great opportunity to recycle favorite pieces that are missing a mate or that you don't wear anymore.

Here's another chic recycling idea. Find some old roofing tin, embossed ceiling tiles, or interestingly shaped pieces of flat, rusty metal to create a collage. You'll get many compliments on the one-of-a-kind results.

On another simple but lovely project, you'll imitate the texture of delicately aged porcelain by decoupaging paper napkins onto the surface. It's an interesting and satisfying technique that works especially well with a pretty floral pattern. Your frame will have an old-fashioned charm that will add heirloom appeal to whatever you're framing.

These appealing designs will enhance any room as well as the pictures you frame in them.
