School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up-Each of these books provides a thorough overview of its subject. Large, colorful charts and smaller photographs appear throughout. Well annotated, the graphics are a welcome supplement to the texts. Fact boxes highlight scientific topics. The information is presented in an open layout with large type, which would be especially useful for reluctant readers. These titles offer the history behind the discovery of specific subatomic particles, as well as a discussion of their importance and current applications. For example, in Proton, Bortz presents this fundamental building block of atoms and its importance in determining the physical and chemical properties of elements. Due to the nature of the subject matter, there is some crossover among the titles. Together the series offers a comprehensive introduction to the science of subatomic particles. Each book concludes with a list of resources and a single Web site as the publisher has chosen to host the links to related sites. However, when checked, it contained no links. Excellent additions for research and reports.-Maren Ostergard, Bellevue Regional Library, WA Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.Book Details
