School Library Journal

Gr 6-9These series entries feature an attractive layout, readable typeface, plenty of white space, and informative sidebars and captions for the well-chosen, well-reproduced black-and-white archival photographs and prints. Young's prose is crisp, to-the-point, and insightful; he makes use of appropriate quotes, although they are not documented. The presentation of ``both sides'' of the events under discussion provides young readers with an opportunity to make their own judgments and/or decisions. Students may also be encouraged by these titles to read Jane C. Miner's Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Watts, 1984; o.p.) and Slavery (Greenhaven, 1992).David A.
