Library Journal

This book argues that a strong economic rationale exists for environmentally sound behavior, and one can ensure financial security while promoting the social good. There are some good points on how homeowners and stock purchasers can protect their investments from nasty pollution surprises, and the author also discusses health care, bonds, commodities, corporate planning, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship. Unfortunately these points are hidden in a poorly organized and poorly conceived book. Most of the book consists of anecdotes about how much money was or could be made or lost from various environmental problems. There are several small errors of fact and non sequiturs, and the author makes no distinction between the seriousness of different environmental problems or the effectiveness of various solutions. Apparently anything which sounds like a solution, and which offers a chance for profit, is good. Except in isolated spots, this book is not useful as a guide to decision-making, and its audience is not clear. Not recommended.-- Branden B. Johnson, Columbia
