Gr 5-10Since 1927, the Harlem Globetrotters have entertained crowds around the world with their superb basketball skills and comedy act. This book provides an interesting account of their history. The first chapter details one of their most impressive wins over the world champion Minneapolis Lakers in 1948. The following seven chapters present a chronological look at the Globetrotters. Besides the basketball action, readers will see how the early Globetrotters had to fight for their financial survival and the prejudice that team members faced long into the club's existence. Wilker also features a number of the team's highly skilled players/entertainers such as Goose Tatum, Marques Haynes, Curly Neal, and Meadowlark Lemon. Average-quality captioned black-and-white photographs appear throughout. Unfortunately, the text is not documented. Nonetheless, it is an interesting addition.Tom S.
