A leader of the Communist Party of Poland in the 1920s and 1930s, Minc (1895-1962) remembers its formative years, describing its internal life, its weekly illegal Central Committee meetings in Warsaw, and the conferences and congresses where its policy was hammered out. The memoir was first published as Geshiknte fun a falsher iluzye by the Central Union of Polish Jews in Argentina in 1954. Though it is anticommunist and written decades after the events it describes, Michaels, with a New York Marxist archival and research facility, says it provides English speakers with vivid details, especially about the personalities; he contributes notes and an index.
