Gr 7-9-An introduction presents a brief background history of Vietnam from the Chinese rule of 111 B.C. to the exit of the French and the beginning of the U.S. involvement in 1954. The text is then divided into five chronological chapters that discuss such topics as the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, LBJ's escalation of the war, campus protests, teach-ins, marches, draft-card burnings, the My Lai massacre, the 1968 Democratic National Convention, Woodstock, the Kent State shootings, the draft lottery, and the Pentagon Papers. The epilogue concludes with a balanced discussion of the period. Well-captioned, black-and-white photos liberally illustrate the text. Half- to full-page boxed articles, many with photos, supplement the main presentation. However, some of them are poorly placed, requiring readers to stop in the middle of a segment or to backtrack. Documentation is thorough, with detailed notes. This informative presentation will be a good source for reports and for general interest.-Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
