School Library Journal

Gr 6-9-A fascinating and well-thought-out portrayal of one of the United States's most incredible engineering accomplishments. DuTemple describes the planning and building of the dam, all the while emphasizing the importance of events of the times, and the effect of the Depression on the construction project. Students will find especially interesting the stages in which it was built. The story is intriguing and the writing is engaging. Many black-and-white photographs, reproductions, and diagrams supplement the text nicely. In addition, the illustrations are also well captioned. The author makes good use of boxed areas to provide additional information.-Maren Ostergard, Bellevue Regional Library, WA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
