Gr 5-7-These two slim volumes cover their respective topics in short chapters that give brief descriptions of the battles and some of the leaders involved in each of the wars. Thirty different Web sites that correspond to each title may be accessed by entering the publisher's Web site and using the password that appears in each title. A random check of some of the sites did not seem to produce an abundance of additional useful information. The format is a bit cluttered, with narrow margins and pages that are designed to resemble a computer screen with all the icons. Many of the full-color illustrations are reproductions of computer images and are often difficult to read because of their size. Indian uses the term "manifest destiny," but does not define it; a map labels all of the states east of the Mississippi as the original 13 colonies. There are some unclear passages in both titles. The concept of this series is unique, but purchase is marginal. Most of the information can be found elsewhere.-Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.Book Details
