The introduction begins with the first week of May, 2004, when the first photos of the abuse of prisoners were released to the American public. The following five chapters discuss the Iraq War, the tales of torture told by prisoners and guards, the scandal created by this news, who is to blame, and the legacy of Abu Ghraib. Black-and-white photos throughout as well as boxed commentaries from a variety of sources, help to give a balanced view of this volatile subject. Although balanced reporting is emphasized, this subject matter should only be handled by a knowledgeable and balanced adult/teacher. The photos, although public knowledge, could be misinterpreted by friends and foes on either side of the issue. While terrorism should not be hidden from teens, caution and good judgment should be stressed when selecting the environment and giving guidance during discussion of such issues.
