Synopsis
A little dog named Igvillu dreams of being a sled dog in the North.
Children's Literature
Igvillu is a cairn terrier puppy who dreams about doing just what really big dogs like St Bernard's or Irish Wolfhounds do. When she moves to Northern Canada to live with an Inuit storyteller, her ambition is to be a sled dog. However, one encounter with a real pack of rough and ready, fierce sled dogs is enough to make Igvillu happy for the life she has! She is glad to live in the house with her master, with little booties to protect her feet from the cold and ice and plenty of leisure to dream now of becoming a movie star. The story is a bit wordy. However, the illustrations are likely to draw young dog lovers in. Each spread features one full-color tempera painting on Mylar that shows Igvillu's dreams and experiences. The facing page of text is headed or bordered with striking black india ink drawings that evoke the Inuit culture. Reviewer: Mary Hynes-Berry
