Children's Literature - Marla Frenzel

The rhyming, singsong text of this book will immediately draw the attention of the preschool and first-grade set for whom the book is intended. As the book progresses, the contents of each child's lunch box will hold their interest as they see some of the same foods they see every day at lunch: peanut butter and jam, soup, ham, tuna. They finally get to Sam, but his lunch box is empty; his mother forgot his lunch. Seeing that Sam is upset, Sam's friends all donate parts of their lunches to him. In the end, Sam has the best lunch ever. This book reinforces the ideas of friendship and sharing, while also showing that a bad situation can change and even become something good.
