Overview

History has never been so interesting! Kids can step back in time with the "My World" series. Crafts, activities, stories, and historical facts give today's children a close look at youngsters of past cultures. Photographs of children in costume help bring the past alive, and can be a perfect companion to a school history curriculum. The activities are great for class projects or for at-home pretending. Whether a child is interested in Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Middle Ages, Plains Indians or Vikings... the "My World" series is a great, fun tool.

While telling about his life in Medieval England, eight-year-old Robin includes information about families and homes, food and clothes, castles, markets, tournaments, and beliefs of the people.

Children's Literature - Joyce Rice

It's the year 1250 and King Henry III is the ruler of England. Most of the English people live in the countryside, although merchants and craftspeople often live in towns. The people live in cottages that have dirt floors and thatched roofs. There is a fire burning in the middle of the room that provides warmth, and candles provide light. The candles are made from animal fat that has been saved. The beds are mattresses filled with straw and thrown on the ground. Children like our guides, Robin, Isobel, and Tom must help their parents with chores like feeding the animals and bringing water from the well. This series, "My World" is an excellent introduction to days of yore for the early grades. A brief index is included.
