Ring, with help from consultant Steven Haddock, PhD, of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute has managed a fine overview of the ocean—what an ocean is, what inhabits it, what plant life grows in it and how people use it in temperatures from tropical to icy—all with a word count of 139. The book features a glossary/index and is illustrated with colorful photographs. Especially appealing is the fact that photos feature children whenever possible: children playing on the beach, splashing in the waves with family members, holding a sand pail and smiling into the camera.
