Gr 6-9Clear, concise overviews of two of our nation's major 20th-century military forays. Each volume begins with a brief foreword that sets the scene; quickly segues into a chronological delineation of the ``war'' under scrutiny; and ends with a look at each conflict's legacy and aftermath. The narratives move along briskly without sacrificing content and ease of comprehension. Both books have many illustrative quotations from primary and secondary sources that are cited in a section of chapter notes. There are only two flawsreproductions of archival black-and-white photographs are generally too small, dark, and murky, while maps appear to be hand drawn and are much too small with lettering that borders on illegible.
