Overview

American philosophy has long been considered pragmatic and somewhat ad hoc in nature by a number of commentators. In that sense, suggests Ketcham (emeritus, political science and history, Maxwell School of Syracuse U.), Benjamin Franklin may well be the United States' preeminent political philosopher. He presents an anthology of Franklin's political writings, chronologically covering his entire career. He also provides an introductory essay introducing Franklin's political thought and a "analytical table of contents" in which the documents are listed according to the topics they address.
