Overview
In this study, Sharpling analyzes the use of the image in sixteenth century French literature, focusing on works by Erasmus, Rabelais, Marguerite de Navarre, and Montaigne. He shows how these writers used various images to involve the reader with the text and links this approach with the influence of evangelical humanism. Sharpling teaches at the U. of Warwick. The text is based upon his 1998 doctoral thesis at the U. of Birmingham. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, ORBook Details
