Overview
Jamie Ramsgill Professor of architecture, has been invited to oversee an exclusive competition: six of the world's top architects have been assembled by Renzo Piruzzi, one of Italy's wealthiest men, and given one weekend to design a masterpiece, an chapel that will serve as his tomb. For the winner will come great rewards: an enormous commission, prestige, a priceless artifact thought to be long lost, plus the satisfaction of having bettered his (or her) rivals. Jamie can't decide whether Piruzzi is a genius, whose plan will ensure a brilliant design, or merely calculating and cruel. Soon after arriving at Piruzzi's secluded villa, things begin to go awry. Two of the competitors die, one by choking to death in a drunken stupor, the other by suicide. Jamie begins to suspect foul play, but the police, Piruzzi, and the other competitors are willing to believe that the deaths are nothing more than an unfortunate coincidence. Jamie is forced to undertake his own investigation in order to prove he isn't crazy. As things progress, he finds he can trust no one, save Elena, Piruzzi's strong-willed daughter. Soon matters become desperate, and the two must scramble to uncover the killer, before they themselves become victims. They are titans of talent and ego--six world-famous architects brought to Renzo Piruzzi's magnificent Italian villa to engage in an extraordinary competition.
