The Shrinking State: Globalization and Public Administration Reform

This book provides a political economy perspective on recent changes within Canadian public administrative practice and structure, revealing the theoretical and practical underpinnings of neoliberal public administration. The role of globalization, state fiscal crisis, economic restructuring, and the ideological shift to the political right are viewed as central explanatory factors in public administrative and public policy change.

John Shields is a professor in the department of political science and the School of Public Administration at Ryerson Polytechnic University. John is the co-author of Dismantling a Nation: The Transition to Corporate Rule in Canada and the co-editor of Restructuring and Resistance: Canadian Public Policy in an Age of Global Capitalism. Mitchell Evans is an independent policy analyst, a university lecturer, a doctoral candidate in the department of political science at York University, and a sessional instructor in the department of politics and the School of Public administration at Ryerson Polytechnic University.
