Gr 4-7-The four short chapters in each book are profusely illustrated with black-and-white and color photos, drawings, and reproductions. Hempstead places each landmark or building in historical context-for example, addressing such topics as the origin of the Supreme Court and the 1814 White House fire. Sidebars add information on a range of topics including why the capital is on the Potomac River and the use and meaning of "oyez" in the courtroom.
