Synopsis
Brooklyn-born Canadian philosopher Centore (1938-2003) examines what can be said about the existence and nature of God without the direct aid of scripture, a process called philosophical or natural theology that he says is as valuable today as it was centuries ago. He begins by clearing away the superficial arguments raised for and against religion, and outlining the main ways God or The Divine has been defined through human history. Then he offers a sampling of the basic arguments for the existence of God by type, rather than chronologically. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
